Description

CanyonVista Medical Center has an opportunity for a Chief Operating Officer.

Canyon Vista Medical Center (CVMC) primarily serves SierraVista, Ft. Huachuca and Cochise County. Through its acute care facility andphysician practices, CVMC offers a broad range of inpatient and outpatientservices. Its state-of-the-art facility includes a Level III Trauma Unit, aLevel II Nursery, two helicopter pads and a Wound Care and Infusion Center.

Under general direction, theCOO assumes line responsibility and authority for the administrative direction,evaluation, and coordination of the functions and activities of assigneddepartments within the hospital, ensuring that operation objectives and resultsare in accord with the hospital’s overall needs. In the absence of the hospitalCEO and/or as assigned, the COO represents the CEO in coordinating entireportions of the hospital’s organization, speaking and acting within the scopeof objectives set forth in the practice and/or policy of the hospital.

ESSENTIALFUNCTIONS:

Providesadministrative direction for operations of assigned departments and appraisesthe performance of the respective departments’ heads, including authority tohire and fire, but subject to the veto of the CEO.

Communicatesroutinely with the CEO concerning policy recommendations and suggested coursesof action pertinent to the efficient operation of assigned departments.

Implementsnew policies; disseminates pertinent information following administrativedirectives; and recommends improvement of hospital facilities in assignedareas, including construction or renovation of structures and purchase of newequipment.

Promotescomplete involvement of the departments’ heads in the preparation of thedepartments’ budgets and educates them in the importance of the budget,forecasting and planning process.

Advisesand makes recommendations to the CEO concerning budget, cost, and financialmatters and encourages and assists department heads in establishing a measureof performance, increased productivity, quality improvement, cost controls, andmaximum utilization of facilities.

Advisesthe CEO where executive action is necessary to accomplish these goals andhe/she plans the activities of the individual departments in relation to otherhospital departments so as to obtain a better understanding of each other’s’problems.

Attendsmedical staff meetings and/or medical staff committee meetings, as assigned orrequested, and informs the CEO of proceedings at the meetings attended andrecommends action as necessary.

Representsthe hospital by membership in related professional associations.

Qualifications

Education:  Master’s degree in hospitaladministration (MHA)

Experience:  Verbal, quantitative and interpersonalskills typically acquired through the completion of a Bachelors degree;in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of hospital administration equivalent to theknowledge acquired through the completion of a Master’s degree in hospitaladministration (MHA).

Requires prolonged sitting and some bending, stooping, andstretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient tooperate a keyboard, photocopier, telephone, calculator, and other officeequipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare,and communicate appropriate reports. Requires lifting papers or boxes up to 50pounds occasionally. Work is performed in an office environment and involvesfrequent contact with staff and the public.
