    Preferred qualifications: We are an academic hospital, so we look for technologists who are interested in learning and excited to grow. Experience in an inpatient setting is a plus, but not necessarily required. Preferably, candidate would be a graduate of an accredited sonography program. Must be registered, or be able to attain registry within a year. We are looking for a team player, able to pivot as demands and priorities change. Able to take constructive criticism. Collaborative thinker, must recognize that the echo lab is a team working toward delivering excellent patient care.

    Specific job details: Sonographers are responsible for independently performing high quality echocardiograms on an inpatient and out patient population. Sonographers start IVs, perform EKGs, administer bubble studies and contrast as well as perform TEEs and dobutamine and exercise stress tests. We have a really great team of sonographers, RNs, fellows, residents and leaders here. Working with the fellows allows sonographers to learn continually, and can obtain our CMEs by attending the fellow's conference each week. Banner BUMCT is a 700 bed hospital, and sonographers perform a wide variety of tests and clinical studies. We spend time in the cath lab and OR. The lab works really hard on training every sonographer to perform every task and opportunities to grow with projects and responsibilities within the department and across the hospital.

    Additional Details:
    • Day in the life: Sonographers will rotate through inpatient and clinic setting at two hospitals, the clinic, and outreach sites

      Equipment used: Philips Epic, Ie33, cx50 laptop, GE S70, E9, Seimens Acuson.
    • Number of staff you will be working with: the clinic has 3-4 rooms of outpatients, plus two RNs. Tucson Campus typically has 6 sonographers, a charge, 2 RNs. South Campus has 2-3 sonographers and an RN.
    • Number of patients they will see daily: 7 outpatients/day in clinic (8 hour). 8 inpatients/day in hospital (10 hours).
    • Types of procedures ect: transthoracic echo, transesophageal echo, stress echoes, bubble studies, contrast, TAVRs, RAMP studies, echo guided right heart biopsies, pericardial taps, EKG, starting IVs.
    • This is a part-time position; scheduled 2 days a week, 8am-430pm, but are hoping to expand to 4-5 days a week. There is potential for 10 hour days as well.

      POSITION SUMMARY

      This position, acting as a specialized ultrasound technologist, aids in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiac conditions in patients, playing a central role in detecting issues related to the heart, including heart malfunctions and in supporting the physicians as they develop diagnosis and treatment plans.

      CORE FUNCTIONS

      1. Performs procedures by following and verifying referring providers' orders. Uses independent judgment and applies learned methodologies according to established policy and procedures. Oversees Heart Clinic echocardiographic services, ensuring quality of performance. Accountable for the oversight and application of scanning protocols and quality measures, following the guidelines of ASE or IAC.

      2. Educates patients/families regarding procedure and/or treatment to be performed. Demonstrates professional behavior and conduct in all interactions; fosters teamwork, efficient use of resources and quality patient outcomes.

      3. Performs high quality images and presents them for timely interpretation, ensuring accurate documentation. Performs exams and imaging duties by providing preliminary clinical findings to the supervising physicians. Also provides valuable and timely preliminary findings to the Cardiologists or Cardiac surgeons.

      4. Demonstrates competence in performing prescribed invasive/interventional procedures in accordance with established policies.

      5. Performs and evaluates equipment quality control measurements. Demonstrates the ability to troubleshoot and notifies appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance. Maintains a safe environment for patients, personnel and visitors. Adheres to safety policies.

      6. Accountable for the ethical, legal, professional and certification responsibilities related to the practice. This includes maintaining confidentiality of all work information.

      7. Assures the efficient operation of workflow in the department. Monitors and maintains an adequate inventory of supplies and material to ensure non-interruption of services. Performs high level disinfecting in accordance with manufacturers and regulatory policies and procedures.

      8. Functions as the clinical and technical expert in Cardiac Sonographic Imaging for the Cardiology or Cardiovascular department. May act as a clinical resource to staff and students, as well as train new staff and students in sonographic techniques, with focus on the echocardiographic laboratory. May provide echocardiographic related education to Banner Health staff and cardiac sonography students. May assess student competency and provide feedback to department leadership.

      9. Ensures echocardiography functions are within compliance of professional scope of practice, accreditation and regulatory standards, Joint Commission and Title 22. Performs other duties as assigned.

      MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

      Requires completion of an accredited Allied Health Cardiovascular program.

      Requires national certification from the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) or from Cardiovascular Credentialing International (CCI) as a Cardiac Sonographer. Uncertified new hires must obtain certification within 12 months of hire. BLS certification required.

      This position requires clinical knowledge typically achieved with one to two years of clinical experience. Must demonstrate effective communication skills, human relations skills, analyze data and solve problems.

      PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

      Adult Echo experience preferred.

      Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
